HELI vs Toyota Forklift: An honest comparison
Same lithium-ion tech, 20–35% lower price. Where Toyota wins, where HELI wins, and which is right for your fleet.
Every dealer selling Toyota will tell you Toyota wins. Every dealer selling HELI will tell you HELI wins. We sell used HELI and service both — so here is the comparison neither dealer will write, with the numbers we quote customers every week.
Price: the 25–35% gap is real
A HELI CPD25 — 5,000 lb electric, lithium-ion standard, triplex mast — lists at $24,900 on our lot. The comparable Toyota 8FBE25 quotes around $31,800, and lithium adds roughly $9,800 because lead-acid is still Toyota’s standard pack. Spec-for-spec with Li-ion on both trucks, the gap widens past 30%.
Why? No national-distributor layer. HELI builds factory-direct in Hefei with the same Tier-1 components you’ll find on premium brands — Bosch hydraulics, Cascade attachments, Curtis controllers. You’re paying for the truck, not three tiers of corporate.
Lead time: 0–2 days vs 6–10 weeks
In-stock HELI units leave our Elmhurst lot in 0–2 days. Toyota’s build-to-spec pipeline runs 6–10 weeks for most configurations. If your truck died last Friday, that difference is the whole decision.
Where Toyota honestly wins
Resale: Toyota holds 48–52% of value at 5 years; HELI sits at 38–42%. Dealer density: Toyota’s network is the largest in the country. Brand recognition on the resale listing. If you flip trucks every 3 years and your buyer needs a badge, Toyota’s premium partially pays you back.
But run the full hold: lower acquisition + Li-ion standard + cheaper parts puts HELI buyers 12–18% ahead on 7-year total cost of ownership even after the resale gap. We publish the math in our compare tool — pull the two trucks side-by-side.
The service question nobody asks
Whoever you buy, somebody has to fix it. Toyota service in this market routes through the brand dealer at brand-dealer rates. We service both — same vans, same techs, 4-hour Gold-tier response, parts cross-referenced from 12,000 SKUs in Elmhurst. The truck is half the decision; the service contract is the other half.
